Presents Joan As Police Woman, Lau, James Holden & The Animal Spirits, Nadah El Shazly & more...

A special International Festival Lau-Land by Scottish band Lau, featuring Joan As Police Woman, as part of Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside at Leith Theatre.

An evening part of the all-day takeover by the fabulous Lau, a trio of folk adventurers with roots in Oban, Orkney and Edinburgh. Their Lau-Land was a huge success at this year’s Celtic Connections, and they’ve gathered more eclectic acts to perform over a day of community workshops, talks and folk music sessions.

Egyptian experimental artist Nadah El Shazly makes her International Festival debut, blurring traditional Egyptian song with warped guitars and mysterious electronic melodies. She’s joined on the bill by another artist shaking up the avant-rock world, the compelling Joan As Police Woman, aka Brooklyn singer Joan Wasser. Plus a set from the extraordinary avant-folk star Alasdair Roberts, the brilliant Whitburn Band, the unaccompanied vocal quartet Landless, traditional folk singer Siobhan Miller, fun-loving electro retro DJ Some Chick Called Bob, and techno artist turned psychedelic folk-popper James Holden & The Animal Spirits. Lau will also take to the stage for a virtuosic display of their folk chops, filling the Leith Theatre space up with their hypnotic blend of song, fiddle, accordion, wurlitzer and synthesisers.
